KAU Vice-President for Projects opens the Crisis and Disaster Management Meeting

 

On Behalf of HE KAU President Prof. Abdulrahamn Al Youbi, HE Prof. Abdullah Bafil, KAU Vice-President for Project opened the scientific meeting entitled “Crises and Disasters Management” on Thursday May 12th, 2016. The opening ceremony was attended by the Makkah Province Civil Defense General Director Gen. Salem bin Marzoug Al Matrafi an addition to an elite of specialists in the field Crises and Disasters management.

The ceremony also witnessed the  review of  a group of the first class graduate of the Executive MA Program  in Crises and Disasters Management from the Faculty of Earth Sciences –Environmental Lane and a number of their graduation research works discussing crises and disasters management scientific  methods that limit their negative impact on the society.


In HE KAU President speech pronounced on his behalf by KAU Vice-president for Projects he stressed KAU keenness to promote scientific research through the creation of research centers as well as assigning prizes and awards to quality research publication and organizing several meeting for the publication of research works and exchange of ideas and experiences.


He also indicated that KAU has dedicated substantial resources to the Management of Crises and Disasters and created a center for crises and disaster management that establishes strategic plans and training programs  based on virtual situations..

He hoped the meeting will issue recommendations and results that will benefit the institutions and the society in general. He also thanked the meeting organizers and participants and the audience.


From his part Dr. Ammar Amin, Faculty of Earth sciences Dean indicated the that crises and disaster management has become a field and skills taught in most renowned universities around the world.

That is why KAU undertook to create a practical program involving nine other faculties that attributes the MA degree in Crisesd and disasters management delivred by the faculty of Earth Sciencesthat was initaially targeting executive personnel in both public and private sectors’ institutions of which 12 government institutions have already benefited.


Dr. Amin Valued the KAU Executive Management support for the program and thanked the audience and the researchers and concerned officials in both public and private sectors institutions taking pasrt in the meeting.


A number of researchers among the program garaduates presented some studies among whcich the study of the impact of the urban planning criteria on the requirement of handling emergencies in crowded areas. Another study of the Hijrah street in Makkah was presented by researcher Nayif Subhi. Another study about a suggested mechanism to develop the Rescue and Fire Training Center of the Saudi Civil Aviation Academy was presented by researcher Mohamed Al Amiri who suggested a methodology for the effectiveness assessment of training programs to better face crises and disasters.

Another study about a case study on King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah and the effectiveness of fire and rescue measures in the kingdom airports in dealing with and handling airplanes crashes was presented by researcher Hassan Al Nashiri.
