KAU hosts a workshop on the experiences of successful universities in applying the Afaq plan

 

Higher education deputy minister Dr. Mohamed Al Ohly patronized a workshop on the experiences of successful universities in applying the KAU and Afaq plans and their outcomes' benefits organized by Afaq plan executive office with KAU partnership on Thursday 28 April 2016 at the KAU  Main Meeting Room. HE Prof. Abdulrahman Al Youbi, KAU President and a number of academic leaderships attended the ceremony.


HE Higher Education Vice-minister thanked KAU for its initiative to host the workshop wishing it successful and beneficial outcomes.

He also praised KAU warm welcome and distinguished hospitality.

He pointed out in his speech  that Higher Education contributes with a paramount role in building the knowledge society provided a strong and well-defined foundation and vision on the long run. Based on such foundation and vision, the Ministry of Higher Education directed by the wise leadership undertook a project for the preparation of an independent plan for higher education in Saudi Arabia that is built on strategic planning mechanisms and methods. 

Such project aims at formulating a long-term strategic plan with a well-defined vision, mission and strategic objectives as well as establishing implementation practical mechanisms.


HE KAU president welcomed the guests audience stressing the importance of the workshop that contribute in better defining the future strategic plan for higher education in KSA.

He added that KAU seeks to be the most distinctive university globally thank to sustained societal partnership through the development of knowledge, research, creativity and entrepreneurship.


The workshop started by a review of KAU strategic plan presented by HE KAU Vice-President for Development Prof. Abdulfatah Mashat in which he exposed the optimal application of the KAU strategic plan.

He mentioned a number of strategic sources for the preparation of the Taziz Plan, which includes strategic planning workshops, brainstorming, in addition to councils, committees and faculties recommendations.

He also mentioned as part of these sources strategic plans such as Afaq's, Ministry of Planning tenth development's, KACST's, as well as strategies of the beast 500 international universities, books and research articles.

He added that assessing the current and hoped status, the discussion of the vision, mission and objective formulation as well as plan's paths, main projects' programs and performance indicators are among the most important Taziz Plan works.

He also indicated that Taziz Plan concentrates on strategic planning towards strengthening gains and the quest for opportunities not on traditional planning.

He also touched on the most important attributes of the third plan, which are the limited performance indicators as well as the simplification of the steps without recourse to KAU sectors' vice-deans for development measures and partnership in addition to the failure to link strategies to resources.

He also indicated that there are several other quality assurance factors for Taziz Plan implementation such as awareness and media campaign for the plan as well as the application of performance contracts with all university sectors. In addition, he stressed the importance of the analytical revision at the end of every semester in addition to the linking of resources with Taziz Plan and periodic follow-up and performance measurement.


The workshop pursued its agenda with the holding of the tenth coordination meeting, which consisted of the review of the third Taziz Plan session for the main outcomes, learned lessons as well as presenting experiences of the most successful universities around the world.

Other implementation factors in the application of KAU and Afaq Plans include those of King Saud  university strategic plan and King Fahd university of Petroleum and Minerals strategic planning implementation  models.


At the end of the workshop, a discussion session was held on the calculation of rates indicators for graduates' employment and employers' satisfaction with their skills and with the cooperation of TE success partners among VPs, CEOs and universities' strategic plan officials.
