The Department of Structural Geology is established in 1978 as one of the Faculty of Earth Sciences departments. Because of the amazing evolution in the fields of Remote Sensing and Geospatial Information Systems, and owing to the intimate relation of the Structural Geology with these tools, the department is renamed as "Department of Structural Geology and Remote Sensing".
The structural geology deals with studding the geometry and the orientation of rocks that forming the Earth’s crust, their relative ages and their environment of formation.
A tectonic framework can then be introduced. The remote sensing on the other hand deals with the geologic and environmental conditions as envisaged from the aerial photographs and satellite image.
In addition to offering both undergraduate and graduate programs, the Department is in charge of teaching some basic courses required by the Faculty for all the undergraduate students including the field geology courses.
